Port Blair, Mar 18: Fourth day of the 5-day Community Living Camp of Tagore Govt. College of Education, Port Blair began with physical exercises and yoga. The theme of the day was ‘Disaster Management’. The Guest of the day was Mrs. Sheela Singh, Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council. She was received by the Principal and escorted by the College Band Troop with display of different marching formations.
At the outset of the programme, Dr. J. D. Singh, Principal, welcomed the Chief Guest and appraised her about the objectives of the 5-day Community Living Camp. In her speech, the Chief Guest spoke on Women Empowerment and the service of women in different fields like politics, spacecraft, science, sports and other fields. If the girl is educated two families are educated .
The situation has been changed in India and there is a need of attitudinal change among the people. Besides this she spoke on the cleanliness and how to keep the city clean. Cleanliness is not only the duty of the Municipality but the duty of each individual in the society. She wished that the trainees will derive the utmost benefit from the camp to enhance their life skills for the better adjustment in the society.
As per the camp schedule, the technical session began with lecture on Fire Fighting by Shri. Mithilesh Kumar Shukla, Chief Fire Officer, A & N Islands, Fire Services. The lecture was very informative and the interaction session with the Resource Person was very significant. During demonstration, the campers learned the use of various fire extinguishers.
In the post lunch session, there were lectures by Shri. Sanjay Balan, Deputy Director on Disaster Management followed by mock drill on disaster preparedness by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The programme was found to be very informative and impressive for the campers.
