Port Blair, Feb 12: The Government of India, Ministry of Labour & Employment vide Notification dated 22nd December, 2015 has implemented ESI Act in these Islands with effect from Jan 1, 2016. As per ESI Act, the entrepreneurs/employers of the factories/organizations falling under Port Blair Tehsil of South Andaman District shall register their organizations under the ESI Act 1948 and shall obtain 17 digits employees coded number. Since the entrepreneurs/employers of the organization are not aware of these schemes and what are the formalities to be observed for registration, etc. the Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry had requested the Regional Director, ESI to conduct an awareness programme.
Accordingly, Mr A Sunder, Deputy Director, ESI, A&N Islands conducted an awareness programme with the chamber on Thursday at Hotel TSG Emerald View, Phoenix Bay. During the meeting, all doubts and apprehensions of the business community and the employers were discussed in detail. The President, ACCI, Mr Girish Arora requested all members to register their organization under the ESI Act.
