Port Blair, Jan 06: Shri Om Prakash Rawat, Hon’ble Election Commissioner of India arrived at Port Blair on 6th January 2016 (Wednesday) on a five – day visit to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In a meeting with the CEO, A&N Islands Smt. R. Menaka, IAS and other officers of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Port Blair today, the 6th January 2016 (Wednesday) at 1000 hrs. in the Conference Hall of the South Point Circuit House, Port Blair, the overall electoral scenario of A&N Islands was discussed.
The three election districts and their functioning was briefed. He stressed on increasing voter turnout further and bringing polling stations closer to the voters. Constraints such as internet connectivity and remoteness were also discussed.
The successful conduct of last General Elections held during April-May 2014, utility of VVPAT, Rationalization of polling stations, safe storage of EVMs at strong room, conduct of current special summary revision of electoral roll w.r.t. 01/01/2016 as the qualifying date was also discussed.
