Port Blair, Jan 5: To curb the menace of drunken driving, the Traffic Police has been taking stringent action against the persons riding/driving their vehicles under intoxicated condition. During the year 2015, altogether 2098 persons have been challaned as against 1794 challaned in 2014 and their vehicles have been seized who were involved in drunken driving. The driving licences of 41 persons were also suspended for 3 months by the Licencing Authority on the recommendation of Traffic Police for their repeated involvement in drunken driving.
The Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety has also recently issued direction to the States and UTs to take stringent action against drunken driving. All drivers/riders are being again cautioned to refrain themselves from driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol to avoid penal action against them.
