Port Blair, Nov 26: The 23 RAJPUT, of the Army Component of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), was awarded the ‘Best Environment Friendly Unit’ Trophy of the ANC for the year 2014-15. The trophy was presented by the Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command Vice Admiral PK Chatterjee PVSM, AVSM, NM to the Commanding Officer of 23 RAJPUT, Colonel Amit Kumar Chand, Shaurya Chakra, on Thursday at an ANC event.
The unit as part of its ‘Green Initiative’ undertook the plantation drive and public place cleaning drive including beach cleaning. This Trophy is awarded to the most environment friendly unit of ANC every year and has been instituted with an aim to enhance the awareness about creating green foot prints in the Islands, while at the same time, generating healthy competition among all the units of Andaman & Nicobar Command in achieving this goal. This Trophy was awarded to Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), Port Blair, last year.
