Port Blair, Nov 11: An English Literature club in the name “Chauser Literature Club” was formed by the Department of English, Andaman College recently to provide a platform for students and faculties for expressing their literary creativity.
The Principal of the college Dr R Dev Das appreciated the efforts taken by the department. He added that reading is vital and we all agree to this, but if reading or writing is viewed as a task, people would avoid it at all costs. It is very important to develop a positive taste and attitude towards literature and other literary activities. Clubs like this can definitely help students and staff to inculcate good literary habit.
Dr. C Pusphavali, HOD (English) explained in brief that the Club aims at fostering love for books and literature, and promoting literary activities among college students. The wide spectrum of literary activities to be undertaken by the Literary Club was also briefly mentioned. She further added that the club will be publishing a magazine “Pinnacle” on yearly basis and the first edition will be released very soon.
Befitting cultural programmes were also organized by the department on the occasion. A Vibrant and colorful play “save Girl Child” was staged to create awareness among the students about the need to work towards educating the girl child. A skit on “English Teaching: The humorous side” was also staged by the students. Students from the music department also presented a melodious English song on the occasion. Ms Annie, Faculty of English Department proposed the vote of thanks.
