Port Blair, Nov 11: The shortage of labor due to engagement of farmers in various occupations other than agriculture led to the invention of various Farm Machineries. In Farm Mechanization various Machineries such as power tiller, tractor was used from time immemorial. Recently various farm machineries such as Paddy transplanter, Paddy harvester, Paddy reaper etc were introduced for agricultural activities. For highlighting the importance of these recently introduced machineries, the Department of Agriculture, Diglipur in association with Agricultural technology Management Agency (UTATMA) has decided to conduct a demonstration on Farm Machineries in the field of Shri Deepak Halder, R.K. Gram on 09.11.2015.
The demonstration was conducted by harvesting of paddy with the use of Paddy Reaper. At the outset, Smt. R. Bhu Bharthy, Agriculture Assistant welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of mechanized farming in agriculture so as to boost the production and to bring sustainability in agriculture which would strengthen their livelihood and overcome the problem of labour shortage.
Shri Dinesh Ch. Das, Agriculture Assistant explained in detail about the efficiency of Paddy Reaper and informed that 1 ha paddy field can be harvested in 5 hours against 20-25 mandays is required for manual harvesting and also with very low fuel consumption i.e 750 ml kerosene per hour.
Practical demonstration on Paddy Reaper was demonstrated by Shri Abdul Sabeer, HVD alongwith Shri Nitai Ch. Das, farmer of R.K. Gram and altogether 20 farmers actively participated in the programme.
Earlier a demonstration on preparation of “Panchagavya” in the field of Shri Avinash Das at Nabagram village was conducted on 7th November 2015 at 3.00 P.M. with a view to popularize the concept of organic farming.
The programme was graced by the presence of Shri Niranjan Baroi, Pradhan, Nabagram Gram Panchayat as the Chief Guest.
At the outset, Smt. R. Bhu Bharthy, Agriculture Assistant welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of organic farming and the use of Panchagavya for enrichment of soil health.
Shri. Sudhangshu Halder, Agriculture Assistant explained in detail about the importance of organic farming and briefed about the method of preparation of Panchagavya and other formulations for soil enrichment.
Shri Niranjan Baroi, Pradhan, Nabagram Gram Panchayat urged the farmers to apply balanced dose of fertilizers and to gain maximum knowledge on the new technologies of farming for conversion to organic farming which can ultimately boost their income as well as health.
Practical demonstration on preparation of Panchagavya was carried out by Shri Limpas Xalxo, Assistant Technology Manager (ATMA). The participant farmers were also involved in preparing the “Panchagavya”.
Altogether 20 farmers, farmer friends & PRI members attended the programme with great enthusiasm and the programme ended with vote of thanks by Smt. Sheema Devi, Block Technology Manager (ATMA).
