Port Blair, Sept 28: ANCOL Eco Club of Andaman College celebrated “Green Consumers Day 2015” on Monday on the theme “Consumerism: Be Green Conscious”. Various programmes were conducted to observe the day in a meaningful manner. In his address,t he ANCOL Principal, Dr R Dev Das highlighted on the importance of the observance of the day. He stressed on the point that this global celebration highlights the problems of consumerism and its impact on the environment. This is an area of major concern in today’s global market orientated world. We should focus primarily on awareness raising and the importance of recycling-reusing and reducing waste material. He further added that it is the duty of every student to create awareness about waste management, and initiate a sustainable change in the campus as well as encourage the people of Port Blair to minimize waste and to manage that minimum waste in a better way for making Port Blair a clean city, he said.
A massive signature campaign was held at the college campus which witnessed active participation from the students and Faculties of the College. Everyone pledged to carry on the message of Green Consumerism and also billed to practice 5R Rule: Refusing-Rethinking-Reducing-Reusing-Recycling in their day to day life.
