Port Blair, Sept 11: The Andaman and Nicobar Police today assured public that the inquiry into the matter of death of Havelock youth, Mr. Amit Das will be conducted by an Independent team, which will be sent from Port Blair.
When asked that if the allegation of public, that Amit Das died due to torture by police, are found correct, will the police department take action against the concerned police Jawans, a Senior Officer said that the members of Independent inquiry team will meet the witnesses and public independently at Havelock and record statement.
“The entire matter will become clear by tomorrow. We are also waiting for official Post Mortem report,” the senior officer said.
“After talking with public of Havelock Island, we will resolve the matter peacefully. The investigation will be conducted by the independent team and police will not be involved in this inquiry. We assure public that appropriate action will be taken based on the inquiry. Police department will share the details of Post Mortem report once we get the written report from doctors. I request public to cooperate with us and not to spread rumours,” the senior official told Andaman Sheekha.
