Port Blair: Aug 14: It has been noticed that extensive use of plastic disposable teacups/ glasses are used by the trading community involved in the procurement, stock, sell or sale and Food Business Operators conducting hotels and tea stalls business in A & N Islands. These cheap plastic cups/ glasses because of their chemical or physico- chemical properties are liable to cause serious health problems to human beings.
Keeping in view of their toxic nature All Trading Community involved in the procurement, stock, sell or sale and also the Food Business Operators involved in hotels and tea stalls business are warned not to stock, sell or sale these plastic cups/ glasses and also serve hot tea/ coffee in these cups/ glasses in the interest of public health. The general public is further cautioned not to consume hot tea/ coffee in these plastic cups and glasses as it may cause serious health problems due to toxic chemicals present in these cups.
The Food Safety Officers attached to all the three District Food Safety Office of A &N Islands under the Commissioner of Food Safety will carry out special drive against the errant vendors from 24th August 2015, said the Commissioner Food Safety, A & N Islands in a release.
