Port Blair, July 19: The 15th death anniversary of Late Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee, an alumnus of JNRM who laid down his life fighting militants, will be observed in JNRM campus tomorrow at 10 am.
The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Lt. Gen A.K. Singh (Retd) will be the chief guest of the state level event and deliver the ‘Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee Memorial Lecture’ on the occasion on the topic ‘Role of youth in protecting the Country’.
This is great effort from the side of JNRM to organizing such a lecture for youths, especially the young students to perpetuate the memory of Andaman’s Hero Martyr Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee.
It has been learnt that the Lt. Governor has taken out a lot of time to prepare the ‘Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee Memorial Lecture’ himself for the youths of these Islands.
Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee became that hero, when he engaged the militants in an encounter and made the supreme sacrifice on 20th July 2000 in Kashmir.
For the family of Capt. Bhattacharjee, the loss is irreparable. After the loss of the elder son some years ago young Ashim was the only son left for the parents. Shri K. N. Bhattachaiji, the father of Ashim is highly respected as a teacher and priest. Their only hope was Ashim, who, they thought, would rise in the ranks because of his bravery and intelligence and become a big officer. Their hopes have been dashed by fate, which deemed otherwise.
The only way to compensate the family is by giving deserved honour and respect to Late Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee.
