Port Blair, Feb 19: Some minor children have been observed riding moped/scooty without gear on the strength of license issued from the Licensing Authority recklessly, without helmet and in a zig-zag manner exposing themselves and other road users to risk of accident.
As per Section 4 of the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 “ No person under the age of eighteen years shall drive motor vehicle in any public place: Provided that [ a motor cycle with engine capacity not exceeding 50 cc] may be driven in a public place by a person after attaining the age of sixteen years.
Further, minor children are also seen riding motorcycles of 100 cc and above in gross violation of the rules. Parents of the minor children are advised to not to allow their wards below 18 years of age to ride/drive any type of vehicle in public place. Strict legal action will be taken against the violating minors as well as the guardians.
