Port Blair, Feb 19: The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Coast Guard swiftly evacuated the critically ill tourist (Mr Kaustav Rakshit, aged 27 yrs) from Havelock on 19 Feb 15.
At about 1015 hrs on 19 Feb 15, information was received from Dy Director Health cum Port Health officer Port Blair A & N administration, at Coast Guard MRCC Port Blair regarding life threatening condition of a tourist following Scuba Diving at Havelock. The tourist has developed vertigo while undergoing Scuba Diving. Initially the patient was shifted to Primary Health Centre Havelock, as the condition remained critical due low heart beat, it was decided by concerned Medical Authorities for immediate evacuation of tourist from Havelock to Port Blair.
The Coast Guard Region (A&N) on receipt of the information diverted Coast Guard Ship C-147 to Havelock, which was on routine patrol. Coast Guard Ship C-147 entered Havelock at 1150 hrs for evacuation. The patient was brought to Port Blair and handed over to the Medical team ex- GB Pant Hospital at Coast Guard Jetty.
