Port Blair, December 24: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), arrived at Car Nicobar on 23rd December 2014 on a two-day visit to this Island accompanied by Shri Theva Neethi Dhas, Secretary (Tribal Welfare). On his arrival at the IAF Station, Car Nicobar, the Lt Governor was accorded warm welcome by the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar district, the Station Commander, IAF Station, Car Nicobar, SP, Nicobar, Secretary Tribal Council, Car Nicobar and other Senior Officers of the Administration.
Thereafter, the Lt Governor proceeded to Malacca village and inaugurated the renovated building of District Library of Education Department. He lauded the efforts made by the Education Department for re-establishing the District Library which was damaged in the massive earthquake of 26th December, 2004. He appreciated the efforts of APWD for completing the construction work in a time bound manner. In his address, the Lt. Governor reiterated that all efforts should be made to utilize this library to its potential by the students as well as general public of Car Nicobar.
The Lt. Governor also visited the Kinyuka village, which has been selected under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana from Nicobar District. He urged the Administration to take up some fruitful projects for the village under the aegis of the scheme.
The Lt Governor also visited Mus Church and participated in the festivities, along with members of the Tribal Council. He emphasized the importance of preserving the tribal culture and urged the Administration to take up developmental works in a sustainable manner while keeping in mind the interest of the tribals.
On his way back, the Lt Governor visited Hut Bay. He held a meeting with the PRI representatives and local heads of the Departments in the APWD guest house. He discussed with them about the development projects taken up at Little Andaman and directed the Departments to attend to the problems of the people on priority. He also visited Dugong Creek, an Onge settlement before returning to Port Blair.
