Port Blair, Dec 17: It was a dream of the students of rural areas of the Islands to make their presence felt at National level. The Sabri School of Middle Andaman has proved it through their sensitivity towards environment, on 14th December. The Students put their questions before the Power Minister in video conferencing, without any hesitation.
The Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal appreciated the students for their concerns for the environment and said that Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi had conveyed his message to the students to make the Islands clean and green. Mr. Goel said that the Govt. has planned to introduce LED electric appliances in all its offices throughout the country by 2016.
The first query of the minister to Kumari Alka, a student of class XI was that why the conservation of power is the need of the hour. Alka replied to his satisfaction. Rohit Sil of class XII of Sabari School in his reply to another question of the minister said that the school has taken measures to conserve the energy by taking energy conservation steps. Moreover the school is actively involved in the Swach Bharat Abhiyan by taking part in the cleanliness drives and awareness programs among the villagers.
He informed that the school has Power ministers in its youth Parliament, who monitor the energy conservation. Listening to the students of this far flung area of the country the Power minister clapped and said that all the schools should follow the steps taken by Sabri School for the conservation of energy.
The Principal of the Sabari School Mr. Sharad Chandran told media, that it was the proudest moment for the students when they heard that they had been the only school of the Islands to be selected to interact with the Power minister Mr Piyush Goyal through video Conferencing on last Sunday at NIC Port Blair, in which few selected schools of the country were selected to express their views on the subject.
He said that the school administration has already taken steps to stop the misuse of power conservation. Mr. Sharad said that all the classes of the school have been ensuring that the electrical appliances are put to off when they leave the class or when the appliances are not in need. The best performing classes are awarded every week in the assembly, the Principal said.
Smti Alleyamma Thomas and Mr. Suman Halder were the teachers who accompanied the students during their tour to Port Blair for this historic program. In fact the students were supposed to interact with the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi through video conferencing, but due to some urgent work he could come and the Power Minster had to come for the program.
