Port Blair, Dec 17: As part of the nationwide Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan aimed at fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi’s Vision of ‘A Clean India’, the Andaman and Nicobar Command undertook cleanliness drives across the length and breadth of the Islands. As part of this effort, the Naval Component under the Andaman & Nicobar Command carried out a cleanliness drive at Cinque Island over the past one week. Three Naval ships, namely Baratang, Battimalv and LCU-37 took upon themselves to ensure that all the garbage, waste items, bottles, plastic material etc is collected and disposed of and the pristine beauty of the island restored.
The Army Component at Brichgunj joined the initiative by handing over five dustbins to the Municipal Corporation Port Blair and Panchayats of areas in close vicinity of the Military Station, in an event attended by the Chairman Municipal Council, Pradhans / Members of the Porthapur and Brichgunj Panchayats and large number of civil residents.
Earlier on Oct 2, the campaign by the Command was started by Vice Admiral Pradeep K Chatterjee, Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command. He urged all Defence personnel and families to contribute towards this noble cause, as this reflected the selfless service and true image of the Armed Forces.
