Port Blair, Nov 21: Andaman’s and India’s cycling’s wonder girl Deborah yet again proved to be the saviour for her country as she won a gold in the 500-metre time trial event of the women’s elite section on the opening day of the Track Asia Cup 2014 at the IG Stadium Complex Velodrome, here today.
She clocked 37.250 seconds for the distance, finished way ahead of the silver medalist Tatyana Zadenepryanova of Kazakhstan and bronze medal winner Parul Akhtar of Bangladesh.
The Kazakh girl timed 40 seconds while Akhtar clocked 45.600 seconds.
The hosts grabbed one silver and four bronze medals apart from Deborah’s gold during the day.
Since 2004 Tsunami, Deborah has not only reshaped her life but also emerged as the country’s top cyclist. Deborah has once again made Andaman and Nicobar Islands proud.
Mr. Ranjith Kumar, Assistant Director Sports, A & N Administration is presently in New Delhi as tehnical official of Track Asia Cup Cycling Championship 2014. Mr. Ranjith Kumar, Secretary General of Andaman & Nicobar Cycling Association, is also with Deborah.
