Billyground, Oct 30: The Mahatma Gandhi Government College in the headquarter region of the North and Middle Andaman District has become a flagrant example of how precious revenue from the government treasury is squandered in the name of titivation. More than a year has passed after the Andaman Public Works Department installed 13 Air Conditioners in the triple storeyed College building. But, none of the ACs has been put into operation till date and the costly equipments are left to rust, according to sources.
Lakhs of money were spent for purchase of the Air Conditioners. The APWD installed the equipments in the year 2013. Sadly, nothing else was done after that. Not a single APWD official turned up to put the machines into operation. All of them are lying redundant for more than a year now. Many of the equipments are presently lying in a dilapidated state. Even the college authorities did not bother about the drainage of government money resulting out of such installations, said a staff of MGGC, requesting anonymity.
The top brass of the local government should immediately order a probe into the episode. Officials, found responsible for such act that led to revenue loss from the government exchequer, should be taken to task.
