Diglipur, Sept 25: The Pramukh and other PRI members of Diglipur today highlighted several issues faced by the farmers of the Diglipur Island infront of the Secretary (Agriculture/Animal Husbandry/Fisheries), Mr. J.B. Singh, I.A.S who was on an official tour to Diglipur, North Andaman
along with the Incharge Director of Agriculture, Mr. Anjan Kumar Das, Dr. Shiv Kumar, Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Mr. Chandrashekar, Director of Fisheries to inspect the ongoing
activities of Agriculture and allied departments.
In a meeting held in the Conference hall of APWD Guest house at 3.00 pm with the PRIs, progressive farmers and officials of Agriculture, allied Departments and Mr Gopi Krishna, IAS, Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, the PRI members raised issues on transporting of vegetables, space for direct sale of produce in Port Blair and also demanded night ferry service for transporting vegetables, Construction of new vegetable market at Subashgram, Construction of Sub-depot at Subashgram, Rodent menace and timely supply of medicines for cattle, livestock, procurement of highbred animals, requirement of fish fingerlings and fish feed for which the Directors recommended that the actions will be taken by them in this regard.
The Secretary (Agri/AH/FY) assured to look into the problems faced by the PRI members and directed the concerned Departments to follow up the proposals. The Secretary (Agri/AH/FY) appreciated the efforts of various Departments and expressed his happiness over the cordial relation of farmers, PRI members with the Departments.
The team initially visited the Veterinary Hospital, Fisheries sub-station and Zonal Agriculture Office. Later on, the team visited the field of Mr. Aloke Ch. Biswas at Madhupur village one of the progressive cultivators and witnessed the farming activities in the Hi-Tech Poly house constructed under National Horticulture Mission and interacted with the farmer. The Secretary (Agri/AH/FY) also expressed
his keenness in the Fisheries and Animal Husbandry activities adopted by the farmer. The Secretary (Agri/AH/FY) visited Multi Purpose Farm, Keralapuram, Fish Landing Centre and Milk Chilling Plant of ANIIDCO at Durgapur village and the Duck Farm, Goatery, Poultry and Piggery farm at R.K.Gram and Subashgram.
