Mayabunder, Aug 03: A specialized tranquilizing team from Kerala headed by Dr. Sasinder Dev and an assistant from Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekaddy, Kerala reached Mayabunder today at 2045 hrs to handle the case of Musth Elephant and to ensure that when sighted the elephant is Tranquilized in a proper manner.
Earlier today a team led by Mr. L.Alphose, Forest Ranger who is an adept officer in handling Musth Elephants, left for Forest in search of ‘Sanjeev Prasad’ the Musth Elephant, at about 0740 hours.
After conducting combing operation at Kaju Tikry and its nearby adjoining areas, the team could not locate the elephant. Then the team proceeded to Austin –II where again no foot print of the elephant was found. The team now feels that the Musth elephant and two female elephants must have gone towards the north – western side of forest.
Due to heavy rain from time to time, the search team could not conduct the search operation in a proper manner, as the search operation was interrupted frequently. Later the search operation was called off at 1545 hrs.
The Team led by Mr. L. Alhonse, Forest Ranger also visited the area where the 02 female elephants, Champa and Dhanimala, were tied up at road side at Austin –II area, where again there was no trace of ‘Sanjeev Prasad’.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Shri Alphonse Forest Ranger also addressed the people accommodated at rescue camp at Mohanpur School and assured the people that the problem will be resolved soon
It is further reported that the search team led by Shri L.Alphonse, Forest Ranger and the IRBs will resume search operation tomorrow at about 0800 hours.
