Mayabunder, August 03: A search team consisting of 06 Mahouts, Police personnel and armed IRBn Jawans started combing operation at 1025 hours yesterday in search of one rogue and other two female Elephants from Panighat Checkpost to Mohanpur – Austin – II area and found 2 elephants Champa and Dhanimala from deep forest.
These elephants were brought to Austin –II road side and were tied near a water sources with the hope that the Musth elephant ‘Sanjeev Prasad’ in search of water and smell of female elephant will show up. It is learnt that altogether 05 elephants are inside the jungle, out of which these two elephants of Forest Department were captured yesterday and two elephants reportedly belong to private party and the last one is the rogue elephant, of Forest Department, which is still missing.
The second team led by Mr. L.Alphonse, Forest Ranger and IRBn Jawans left Kaju Tikry of Austin area at 1100 hours in search of the rogue elephant along with the favorite edibles of elephant such as Jaggery, banana, jackfruit, tamarind and paddy. Mr. L.Alphonse, Forest Ranger carried the tranquilizing Gun.
They went about 08 km inside the deep forest and returned back on road side of Austin –II area at 1600 hours due low visibility because of cloud.
The team told Andaman Sheekha that there is a chance to see the Musth elephant along with female elephants at Pathergoom and its nearby area where the Forester was killed. Thereafter, heavy rain started at 1640 hours, yesterday evening.
