Port Blair, May 29: The Chief Secretary and Adhyaksha, South Andaman Zilla Parishad today visited the Community Health Centre at Bambooflat and Primary Health Centre at Wimberlygunj to review the health facilities. It was found that shortage of water was severely affecting delivery of health services at Bambooflat CHC. The PHC at Wimberlygunj was otherwise well provided in terms of water supply and as regards staff position there are 02 GDMO (Allopath), 01 Ayush GDMO, 05 Staff Nurses posted in Wimberlygunj PHC as against 04 GDMO (Allopaths), 01 Dental, 01 Homoeopath and 16 Nurses posted in CHC Bambooflat.
The Chief Secretary gave specific instructions that water supply should be given regularly to health centres and health centres should ensure sufficient storage to avoid the recurrence of such long term water shortage. Instructions were given by the Director of Health Services that all defective lights should immediately be replaced and wire mesh nets to be installed in all the windows with the help of APWD authorities to prevent cases of malaria and dengue particularly in view of monsoon.
The Director of Health Services expressed gratitude that the Administration had already approved the recruitment of Nurses against the vacancies. He was hopeful that Nursing services will improve very soon. The electricity supplied to the PHC would be augmented by bigger backup generator. Ultrasound facilities would be made available at CHC Bambooflat and PHC Wimberlygunj by arranging scheduled visit of Sonologist from GB Pant Hospital. X ray facilities are available at CHC Bambooflat and PHC Wimberlygunj.
During the visit, the Chief Secretary and the Adhyaksha were accompanied by the Up Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad Members, Samiti Pramukh of South Andaman and Pradhans of the concerned Gram Panchayats as well as the Director of Health Services and the Chief Engineer, APWD and team of officers and officials.
