Port Blair, Dec 09: The Directorate General of National Cadet Corps (DG NCC) is planning the first ever NCC Girls Expedition to Mt Everest in 2015-16 named ‘MISSION EVEREST’. DG NCC, as a ritual, sponsors two mountaineering expeditions every year, one each for boy and girl cadets. Mountaineering was introduced in NCC in 1970, and has gained tremendous popularity over the years. The rationale behind mountaineering expeditions by the NCC is to strengthen character, instill values of courage, comradeship, discipline, cooperation, determination and perseverance amongst the cadets.
This year the NCC Girls Expedition climbed Mt Shitidhar in October. Mt Shitidhar stands tall at 17090 feet in Manali District of Himachal Pradesh. The expedition comprising 18 girl cadets was led by Lt Col Vishal Dubey, presently Commanding Officer No 1 (A&N) Independent Infantry Company NCC, Port Blair.
In continuation of this successful expedition, Lt Col Vishal Dubey has been selected as Team Leader for ‘MISSION EVEREST’. Being a prestigious national level expedition, talent selection is underway. Volunteers for the same from our islands are requested to contact at the following address:- No 1 (A&N) Independent Infantry Company NCC, Port Blair, Link Road, Goalghar, Port Blair – 744101, Phone & Fax: 03192 – 242427, Mob : 9933214214.
