Port Blair, Dec 08: Hit by two Cyclonic Storm ‘Phailin’ and ‘Leher’ within two months, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has put warning signal II in all ports, as the present Cyclonic Storm ‘MADI’ gains strength in Bay of Bengal.
According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) ‘MADI’ has intensified into a very severe Cyclonic Storm and has moved slightly north-northeastward this afternoon, brining raining in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“It would further intensify and move slightly north-northeastwards slowly,” a fresh bulletin of Indian Meteorological Department said here today.
Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has cautioned public that under the influence of Severe Cyclonic Storm “MADI” over Southwest Bay of Bengal, Strong East to Southeasterly wind speed exceeding 45 kmph and generally rough sea likely along and off Andaman & Nicobar coast.
“Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea. Meanwhile, Distant warning signal No. II kept hoisted at Port Blair Port.” the release said.
This year in October cyclonic Storm ‘Phailin’ had caused extensive damages North and Middle Andaman, while recent Cyclonic Storm ‘Leher’ had caused unbelievable damages to South Andaman region on 25 November 2013.
