Port Blair, Dec 08: The Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region and the Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (Tatrakshika) Andaman & Nicobar, organised a blood donation camp at Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex on 08 Dec 2013.
With this, Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) flagged off the celebrations of forthcoming Coast Guard Day 2014. The Regional Commander inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp in presence of Mrs. Jyoti Murthy, President Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (A&N), Deputy Inspector General KBL Bhatnagar, Chief of Staff, Coast Guard Region (A&N), doctors and staff from GB Pant Hospital headed by Dr. Shahina Mustaquim and Shri. Ranjith Gupta, Regional Manager, Kolkata Region of HDFC Bank. The camp was conducted in association with A&N AIDS Control Society supporting the noble service to the society in the Islands.
Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General VSR Murthy lauded the efforts of the GB Pant Hospital in taking initiatives in conduct of these camps and contributing immensely towards the general health and well being of the people of these Islands. He also said that the Coast Guard Region (Andaman & Nicobar) will be organising a series of events as a part of the 37th Coast Guard Raising Day being celebrated on 01 Feb 2014, these included Blood Donation Camps in all ICG Districts, drawing and painting competitions for school children, presentations on Coast Guard to College students and Motor Cycle Rally etc. He emphasised that Coast Guard, true to its motto “Vayam Rakshamah” it means “We Protect” playing a saviour’s role at high seas and also by donating blood ashore.
During the camp the officers, men and families of Coast Guard voluntarily donated blood and 59 units of blood were collected. The Blood Donation Camp was organized with a view to contribute towards social cause with the message ”donate blood, save life and spread smiles”.
