Port Blair, Sept 10: In a tragic road accident a youth from South Point Village died on the spot when the bike, he was riding as pillion rider, hit a water Tanker of APWD.
The youth, Mohd Shahid, 17 years reportedly lost balance and fell under the water tanker of APWD, coming from opposite direction.
The accident took place infront of Government Press, when Mohd. Shahid as pillion rider was going towards Aberdeen Bazaar. The Bike was reportedly driven by a friend of his.
Infront of Government Press the bike rider tried to overtake a Private Bus, when suddenly he saw an APWD Water Tanker coming from opposite direction.
It is learnt that out of panic the bike rider applied sudden brake and lost balance and collided with the truck.
According to sources, the bike rider fell on the left side of the road while Mohd Shahid, the Pillion Rider lost his balance and fell under the tyres of APWD water tanker. The youth was immediately crushed below the rear tyres of the tanker, which resulted in his spot death.
The driver of the water tanker reportedly escaped from the spot, out of fear. Some angry people present at the spot reportedly pelted stones on the water tanker and broke the front glasses.
