Port Blair, Sep 10: Mr. P.B Murugan, Chairperson, PBMC today highlighted the achievements of the Port Blair Municipal Council until Sep. 2013 in a Press Conference held at Conference Hall of PBMC this morning. The press conference was aimed at highlighting the achievements that he has made since he was appointed as the Chairperson, PBMC considering that his tenure is ending later this month.
Amidst the media fraternity of the Islands Mr. Murugan also announced the works that are planned by the council in the left out phase of the year 2013.
The main achievements that Mr. Murugan highlighted were construction of Foot path/ motorable road for 3974 Mtrs, construction of retaining wall for 1210 Mtrs, construction of side drains and hand railing for
2232 Mtrs and 1500 Mtrs respectively. He also highlighted that 5100 Mtrs of roads, 183 Mtrs of new roads and 634 Mtrs of slab work was completed during until now.
He also highlighted some of the other works that were completed during his tenure like construction of modern bus Stand at Lamba line, construction of two Modern toilet one at Dairy farm and another at Mohanpura Pvt. Bus stand, construction of health Club at Jungligaht Community Hall, Renovation and inauguration of Captain Ashim Bhattacharya Park at Junglighat, installation of gym equipments in Ward No. 2, 3, 8,11,17 & 18, enovation and up gradation of Dharmsala at Ward No. 12, renovation of toilet block in Ward No. 2, FMC colony inward Ward No.4, operation of PBMC quarry and renovation of Pig shed at Brookshabad.
He also highlighted the works that are to be taken up by the council in the remaining period of the council and some of the important works that he mentioned were construction of foot path/motorable road for 5000 Mtrs, construction of retaining wall for another 2000 Mtrs, construction of side drain for another 3000 Mtrs, construction of hand railing for another 1500 Mtrs, construction of roads for 20000 Mtrs and new roads and slabs for 2000 Mtrs, 1000 Mtrs respectively.
He said that some other works that are to be taken by the council in the remaining power period of the present council and those are Construction of Shopping Mall at Rathanam Market, Commercial Shopping complex at Gandhi Market, Modern Bus stand at places in the Municipal Area, construction of health club in wards where such facilities have not been provided, Implementation of SWM Project, development of Junglighat area under UIDSSMT, development/beatification of Tiranga Park, development & beautification of Welcome Park at Haddo, Balidan ‘ Vedi Park at Marine Hill, park behind G.B. Pant Hospital, park near Delanipur Community Hall etc, providing additional children play equipments at Marina Park, Reacon Children Park and other such parks.
He further highlighted the achievements of the council in Water works and some of the major achievements that he mentioned were laying of G.I Pipe Line for 5000 mt, laying of D.I. pipe line for 3000 mt, construction of one overhead tank, construction of 10 wells, cleaning of about 120 wells and maintenance of about 25 wells.
He further declared the milestones of the council in the water works for its remaining period in power and the most important of them were changing of 25-30 years old pipelines, construction of three water tanks at Police Line, Lillypur and Marine Hill and laying separate commercial pipe lines in town.
He further stressed on the administrative achievements of the council which were up to the tune of filling up of about 90 posts by promotion and 18 posts on direct recruitment and the proposal of the council for filling up another 220 posts which is pending with the administration.
He further informed the scribes about the vehicles that the council is proposing to buy during 2013-2014 which includes two Air Conditioned Mortuary Van, two Non AC Mortuary Vans, two Dumper Placer, one chain mount excavator, two tyre mounted excavator, one cesspool cleaner, one animal catching van and six light motor vehicles.
