
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 08: A delegation of BJP public representatives, Karyakartas and residents of Swaraj Dweep today met Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, State President, BJP, A & N Islands, and put forth a few demands before him. Following this, the State President, BJP, met the Lt. Governor, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, today and requested him to intervene and resolve the following public demands during his scheduled visit to Swaraj Dweep tomorrow, October 9, 2026.
The important demands include the immediate inauguration of the ‘operationally ready’ 2 MW power plant to resolve the power cut problem of Swaraj Dweep by increasing the capacity to 5.4 MW from the existing 3.4 MW.
An overhead pre-fabricated 2 lakh-litre capacity water tank and the required pipelines behind the Shyam Nagar Panchayat are ready for inauguration. If inaugurated immediately, this will greatly help resolve the water crisis, and more than 4,000 residents of the area will get relief.
Similarly, another demand includes resolving the drinking water problem at Vijay Nagar village. The Karyakartas opined that construction of an overhead water tank at ‘Kachuva Tikri’ and laying a pipeline up to Vijay Nagar Village will resolve the problem of the village.
Another important demand has been regarding the improvement of the road connecting the Jetty to Radhanagar (NH-4) and the road connecting the Jetty to Kala Pathar (NH-5) as soon as possible.
The villagers also emphasized the need for immediate repair and improvement of the approximately 2-km-long road from Krishna Nagar to Kattai Basti to help the village residents.
The fishermen demanded the up-gradation of the ramp and modernization of the Fish Market situated at Govind Nagar. The completion of this work will directly benefit more than 300 fishermen and their families.
The women of the Krishna Nagar Forest Dera area demanded the immediate inauguration of the newly constructed Anganwadi Centre and also demanded the immediate repair and upgradation of the Krishna Nagar (6.5 km) Anganwadi Centre, which is in bad shape.
