Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 25: Mahatma Gandhi Government College (MGGC), Mayabunder, organized a “Nabo Boron” (welcome/induction) ceremony for its newly admitted first-year students, hosted by the college’s second- and third-year students.
Students from across religious and cultural backgrounds took part in the celebration with great joy and enthusiasm. In a first for the college — and indeed for the islands — the newly admitted students were welcomed in accordance with Indian Vedic tradition, through the chanting of the Maha Mrityunjaya Yajna mantra, invoking happiness, prosperity, and success for the incoming batch. The occasion marked a historic and joyous milestone for the institution.
The sacred yajna was conducted through the recitation of Vedic mantras by Pandit Nikhil Chakraborty. The entire program was organized and managed by Dr. P.K. Mandal and Dr. Yashodra Mehta, under the close supervision of the Principal, Dr. RVR Murthy.
Students expressed deep joy and emotion during the ceremony, reflecting a strong and unified faith in Indian culture and tradition. Through the yajna, the students affirmed that their shared identity as citizens of India transcends religious lines — be it Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, or Jain — underscoring the belief that among human beings, the finest of the Creator’s creations, none stands above another.
