Mayabunder, Sept 25: Students of Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder, are likely to benefit from improved transportation facilities for community interaction programmes, field visits and internship-related activities, with Member of Parliament Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray recommending the purchase of a 35-seater bus for the college under the MPLADS scheme.
The recommendation follows a demand raised by students, who had highlighted difficulties in travelling outside the campus for academic fieldwork, community-based programmes and internships. As these activities form an important part of their academic programmes, the absence of a dedicated transport facility had reportedly created practical difficulties.
The requirement was brought to the notice of the MP during his interaction and visit to the college, where the academic and practical needs of students were discussed. Following the request from the students and college authorities, Mr. Ray has now recommended the proposal for funding under MPLADS.
According to the recommendation letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman District, Mayabunder, the proposed work involves the purchase and supply of one 35-seater bus for Mahatma Gandhi Government College. The vehicle is intended primarily to facilitate students’ community visits and internship-related activities, enabling them to undertake academic work beyond the college campus.
The estimated cost of the proposed bus is Rs. 30 lakh. The MP has requested that the proposal be examined and sanctioned from MPLADS funds. The recommendation further states that the required technical, financial and administrative sanctions may be issued after due scrutiny and that the work should be executed in accordance with applicable MPLADS guidelines.
