
Little Andaman, Sept. 18: A Community Awareness Programme (CAP) was conducted for the Onge Community of Little Andaman yesterday at the Community Hall, Dugong Creek, with the objective of enhancing disaster awareness, preparedness and response capabilities among the community.
The programme was organized by 4 Battalion, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Regional Response Centre (RRC), Andaman, in coordination with the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration; Tribal Welfare Department; and District Administration.
A total of 120 members of the Onge Community, including men, women and children, participated in the awareness programme. SI/Exe Vikas, along with NDRF team, conducted interactive and hands-on training sessions on various aspects of disaster management.
The participants were sensitized on basic concepts of disasters, Search and Rescue techniques, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and other essential emergency response measures. The team also provided awareness regarding disaster alerts and early warnings, including the use of relevant social media platforms and mobile applications for receiving and disseminating timely disaster-related information.
The programme provided an opportunity for the Onge Community to gain practical knowledge and develop basic skills for responding effectively to emergencies and disasters, thereby strengthening community-level disaster preparedness and resilience in Little Andaman.
