Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 17: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) conducted a series of Infertility Camps at various locations in South Andaman during the second week of September 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the reproductive health of bovines.
On 12th September 2026, an Infertility Camp was organised at Gandhi Nagar and Shastri Nagar. During the camp, 15 animals were dewormed and 15 animals were provided with mineral mixture supplements. Injection Tonophosphan was administered to one cow. Three cows were found pregnant on examination and conventional Artificial Insemination was performed on one cow. The livestock owners were also advised on proper nutritional management of cattle.
On the same day, another Infertility Camp was conducted at Sippighat village under Gram Panchayat Sippighat by the Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Hospital Garacharma and team, along with Dr. Perumal, Senior Scientist, CIARI, from 6:00 am to 9:30 am. A total of 22 animals were examined, of which 16 were found pregnant, one was pregnancy-doubtful, four were non-pregnant and one heifer had not yet come into heat. Deworming was carried out on 19 cattle, one bull was castrated, and new tagging and tag replacement were done in four cattle.
On 14th September 2026, an Infertility Camp was conducted at Loha Barik and adjoining areas of Manglutan, Guptapara and Maymyo under Veterinary Dispensary, Manglutan. Out of 41 breedable animals available, 11 animals were screened for infertility and reproductive disorders. Three cases of reproductive problems were identified, including one case of underdeveloped genitalia associated with undernutrition and one case of postpartum anoestrus. Six animals were provided mineral mixture and deworming, along with necessary treatment and supportive therapy including Cyclomin-Seven bolus, multivitamin injection and Ivermectin injection. Follow-up of previously treated infertility cases was also undertaken, and farmers were advised on balanced nutrition, mineral supplementation, proper heat detection and timely Artificial Insemination. An Infertility Camp was also conducted at Dam Basti as part of the same series of camps.
These camps form part of the Department’s continuous efforts to address infertility issues in bovines, promote scientific breeding practices and support dairy farmers through timely diagnosis, treatment and technical guidance.
