Sri Vijaya Puram Sept 13: To mark the 2nd Death Anniversary of Sitaram Yechury, veteran Communist leader and former General Secretary of CPI (M), a remembrance meeting was held at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, Port Blalir on (12th September, 2026).
Speaking on the occasion, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee said that absence of Com Sitaram Yechury is badly felt in the present-day Indian politics and said that Yechury’s uncompromising fight against communal forces was appreciated by all irrespective of political affiliations. CPI (M) Secretary said that Sitaram dedicated his entire life for the people of the country. He further said that Sitaram Yechury had emerged as a towring leader of SFI in Jawaharlal Nehru University during the black days of Internal Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975.
Addressing the participants in the meeting, senior leader Pronob Banerjee, who presided over the meeting, said that Sitaram Yechury had fought for keeping democracy alive in the country. Speaking on the occasion, B. Chandrachoodan, State Secretariat Member, called upon the party workers to emulate the life of Com Sitaram Yechury particularly at the present juncture when communal forces are trying to divide the country.
Speaking on the occasion, KG Das, former State Secretary of the party, emphasized the need to oppose the authoritarian regime of the Modi government which will be the appropriate tribute to Sitaram Yechury.
P. Sathyapal, Secretary, Port Blair City Area Committee proposed vote of thanks. A large number of party workers and sympathizers attended the meeting.
