Sri Vijaya Puram, July 25:The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, organized a Legal Awareness Programme today at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram, with the objective of creating awareness among students on child rights, child protection laws, and the legal aid services available under the Legal Services Authorities Act. The programme was graced by Mr. Lilamoy Mondal, Ld. Judge, Family Court, Port Blair; Mr. Sanjay Dutta, Ld. Judicial Magistrate First Class-cum-Civil Judge (Junior Division), 1st Court, Port Blair and Mr. Jayanta Mukherjee, Ld. Judicial Magistrate First Class-cum-Civil Judge (Junior Division), 2nd Court, Port Blair as the Resource Persons.
The programme focused on the topics Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Child Safety, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Mr. Lilamoy Mondal, Ld. Judge, Family Court, Port Blair, delivered an informative lecture on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, explaining the legal safeguards available for children, the importance of reporting offences, and the role of the judiciary in ensuring justice for child victims.
Mr. Sanjay Dutta, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 1st Court, Port Blair, delivered a lecture on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and Child Safety, emphasizing the rights of children, personal safety explaining the legal consequences of child marriage, its adverse impact on society, and the responsibilities of citizens in preventing such practices.
Mr. Jayanta Mukherjee, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 2nd Court, Port Blair, addressed the students on Child Safety, emphasizing the rights of children, personal safety, cyber awareness, and preventive measures against abuse. He also highlighted various NALSA Schemes, the services provided by the District Legal Services Authority, the Child Helpline No. 1098, and the NALSA National Legal Aid Helpline – 15100, encouraging students to seek legal assistance whenever required.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, teachers, and school staff, who actively interacted with the Resource Persons during the awareness session.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Principal, Government Girls’ SSS.
