Sri Vijaya Puram, June 09: CPI (M) has demanded to restore the normal water supply to the residents of rural South Andaman areas without any further delay. In a letter sent to the Executive Engineer, Road Construction Division, APWD, Wimberlygunj, D. Laxman Rao, Secretary, CPI (M) Rural South Andaman Area Committee drew the attention of the APWD authorities to the difficulties being faced by the people of rural South Andaman areas during the last few months due to the indiscriminate cut imposed on the water supply by the APWD. He said that at present, water is supplied once in five days.
CPI (M) Rural South Andaman Area Committee Secretary told the Executive Engineer that now, with the onset of monsoon, water level in the dams has increased and hence the normal water supply can be restored to the previous position of alternate days. CPI (M) noted that despite the appreciable improvement in the water level in the dams, the authorities do not take any action to restore the normal water supply, thereby causing unnecessary suffering to the people living in the rural South Andaman areas.
