
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 13: The Department of Historical Studies, JNRM observed the Remembrance Day of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre on 13th April 2026 through a departmental seminar titled “Public Memory & Historical Narrative: Remembering Jallianwala Bagh.”
The programme was graced by the Principal, JNRM, Dr. Pearl Devdas as the Chief Guest, along with distinguished guests Dr. R.G.S. Baghel, Associate Professor, PG Department of Geography, and Dr. Satya Prakash, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Geography. The event was held in the presence of Dr. Ratan Mazumdar, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Historical Studies, Mr. L. Vaiphei, Programme Coordinator & Assistant Professor, faculty members, and students.
In her address, the Principal emphasized the importance of remembering historical tragedies like the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and highlighted the role of educational institutions in preserving collective memory and promoting critical historical understanding.
The seminar facilitated meaningful discussions on colonial violence, public memory, historiography, and historical consciousness. Faculty members and students actively participated, reflecting on the continued relevance of the event in contemporary discourse.
Students from BA First, Second, and Third Year presented papers on the theme, underscoring the need to document and revisit historical injustices to sustain public remembrance and national consciousness.
