Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 10: The Pradhan of Billiground Gram Panchayat, Mr. Manojit Halder, has appreciated the efforts of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) for constructing a well-developed and durable road in the area, bringing significant relief to local residents.
Speaking on the matter, Mr. Halder clarified that the road, (ATR to Panchugopal Road at Harinagar panchayat under NACD, APWD, Mayabunder) which is approximately 800 meters in length, is not a newly constructed stretch as perceived by some people. He stated that the road was originally built around 25 years ago under the Panchayat Samiti, but had deteriorated significantly over time due to lack of proper maintenance.
He further explained that nearly three years ago, the Panchayat had formally handed over the responsibility of the road to APWD through the appropriate administrative process. The recent construction work has been carried out entirely under the supervision of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, and no funds were contributed from the Panchayat.
Mr. Halder emphasized that the funding for the project was provided by the Administration, while the Panchayat and its members only extended cooperation and highlighted technical issues wherever required. He dismissed allegations made by a few individuals regarding the quality of construction, stating that such claims are baseless and arise from misunderstanding, as some people wrongly believe it to be a completely new road.
Highlighting the quality of work, Mr. Halder said that APWD has executed the project efficiently and ensured proper construction standards. He even challenged critics to conduct an inquiry into the work, expressing full confidence in the quality and durability of the road.
The Pradhan added that the construction work was completed recently within the past few weeks and has already brought noticeable improvement in connectivity and convenience for the local population.
