
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 19: An interactive session on investigation procedures and legal awareness was organized by the Andaman & Nicobar Police in collaboration with the A & N State Legal Services Authority, in association with the District Legal Services Authority on 19th March 2026 in the Conference Hall of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Station House Officers and Investigating Officers from across the Islands. Officers from 45 locations joined the session through virtual mode, while 30 officers attended in person, making it a well-attended and engaging programme.
The session was graced and led by distinguished Judicial Officers, including Chief Judicial Magistrate Cum Secretary DLSA Ld. Samrat Roy and Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate First Class – II & Principal Magistrate JJB, Ld. Jayanta Mukherjee, Mrs. Shweta K Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District. Their expert guidance provided valuable insights into the nuances of investigation and legal procedures.
During the programme, detailed discussions were held on important legislations such as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Juvenile Justice Act and other important nature of cases. The officers were sensitized to the complexities involved in handling such cases and the critical importance of following due legal procedures during investigation.
The Judges shared their perspectives on common challenges faced during investigations and court proceedings and provided clear guidance on legal provisions, proper documentation and best practices to be followed by investigating officers. The interactive nature of the session enabled participants to raise queries and gain clarity on various practical aspects of case handling.
The initiative reflects the continued efforts of Andaman & Nicobar Police to enhance the quality of investigation and strengthen coordination with the judiciary. Such capacity-building programmes are expected to contribute significantly towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system in the Islands.
