Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 27: Mr. Waahid Shah, General Secretary of the Andaman Nicobar Artist Welfare Federation (ANAWF), met the Secretary of Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC), Mr. Azharuddin Zahiruddin Qazi, on November 25, 2025, to discuss key issues concerning cultural organisations and their coordination with the Municipal Council.
During the meeting, Mr. Shah highlighted several challenges faced by local cultural bodies, particularly regarding the high booking charges of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium. He urged the administration to extend greater support to registered cultural organisations working across the islands.
During the SVPMC Secretary reportedly assured Mr. Shah that the matter would be examined sympathetically and appropriate relief would be provided. According to Shah, the booking price of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium is expected to be reduced to nearly half of the current rate, offering significant relief to local artists operating under registered banners.
Mr. Shah expressed gratitude to the Municipal authority for the positive and encouraging response, noting that the decision—once implemented—will greatly support the cultural community and promote artistic activities in the region.
