Sri Vijayapuram, Oct. 5: Following the recent major eruption at the Baratang Mud Volcano, tourist visits to the area were temporarily restricted. Due to this, local jeep drivers who earn their livelihood by taking visitors from Nilambur Jetty to the Mud Volcano suffered financial losses.
Taking note of their situation, Zilla Parishad Member Mr. Alager Swamy met Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Mr. Raj Kumar and other senior officers of the Baratang Forest Division to discuss the issue.
After his request, the authorities have decided to allow tourists to visit the Mud Volcano area from tomorrow onwards in a batch-wise manner, under the supervision of Police and Forest officials.
With this decision, local cab operators will be able to resume their livelihood as usual. Mr. Alager Swamy expressed his gratitude to the PCCF and all department officers for permitting the reopening of the Baratang Mud Volcano area for tourists.
