Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 05: A long-awaited moment of relief and joy arrived for the residents of Baratang as a new water pump was successfully installed at Adazig on Sunday, marking a major breakthrough in resolving the island’s long-standing water supply issue.
The installation, personally monitored by Zilla Parishad Member, Mr. Alager Swamy, continued from morning till evening and was completed successfully by nightfall. The new pump is expected to ensure consistent and reliable water supply to every household in the region, ending years of water scarcity.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Swamy extended heartfelt thanks to the APWD team, including Chief Engineer Pirjeet Rekh, Superintendent Engineer Taj Bahadur, Executive Engineer Denis, Assistant Engineer Faiz Ali, and Junior Engineer Akbar, for their timely action and dedicated efforts.
“This marks a significant step towards solving the water supply challenges of Baratang,” Mr. Swamy said, adding that another 79 HP engine with a water pump has already reached Chennai Port and will be delivered to the island within 10 days. Once installed, Baratang is expected to be free from water crises.
The initiative has been warmly welcomed by residents, who expressed gratitude to the administration, engineers, and local representatives for their coordination and persistent efforts.
Concluding with a note of inspiration, Mr. Swamy remarked, “Baratang has proved that with hard work and unity, even the impossible becomes possible — now every home will have water.”
