
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 30:In line with its commitment to removing unlawful occupations and facilitating public access to common resources, the District Administration, South Andaman today carried out eviction drives at Hobdypur and Wimberlygunj villages under Ferrargunj Tehsil.
At Hobdypur village, the Revenue team undertook the clearance of encroachments from the proposed public path area. Encroachers had attempted to occupy the land by planting arecanut trees on Government land. During the operation, the unauthorized plantation was removed and an extent of 0.05 hectares of land was restored to the Government khata for its rightful use.
Further, at Wimberlygunj village, a long-standing issue of obstruction of a designated public path was resolved. The eviction team removed the encroachment that had blocked the pathway, thereby restoring free passage to the general public. The clearance of this obstruction marks the end of a persistent grievance faced by the villagers and reaffirms the District Administration’s commitment to protecting public rights of way.
The eviction operations were carried out under the supervision of the Tehsildar, Ferrargunj and in the presence of the Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wimberlygunj ensuring transparency and cooperation with the local body. Despite inclement weather conditions, the Revenue team, with the support of the Panchayat representatives, executed the eviction drives successfully.
The District Administration, South Andaman has reiterated that government land and designated public pathways are meant for the collective benefit of the community and any form of encroachment will not be tolerated.
