Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: A shocking incident has come to light from Kalipur Beach in Diglipur, North Andaman, where a lifeguard on duty was brutally assaulted on Monday. The injured lifeguard was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently under treatment. Doctors have stated that his condition remains critical.
In his written complaint to the police, the victim alleged that the attackers not only beat him mercilessly but also attempted to drown him by pushing him into the sea. According to the complaint, the incident occurred when the lifeguard went to speak about garbage accumulation at the beach.
He reportedly raised the issue politely with some guests present there, but two individuals became furious, hurled abuses, pushed him, and then thrashed him brutally. The victim said he sustained severe injuries to his eyes, cuts on his nose and lips, and multiple wounds on his face. Hospital sources confirmed that he has suffered deep injuries to the head and face, and his vision has also been affected.
The lifeguard further alleged that the attackers, father and son duo, tried to drown him in the water, but timely intervention by bystanders, some of whom also recorded videos, forced the accused to flee. With the help of locals, the injured was immediately shifted to the hospital.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. In the initial action, two accused—a father and son duo—have been arrested and remanded to 15 days of judicial custody. Both have been booked on charges of attempted murder.
It is also being alleged that the village head was present at the spot during the incident. However, the victim claimed that despite being there, the head neither tried to stop the assault nor informed the police immediately.
