Port Blair, Apr 20: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC in his letter addressed to the administrator has requested him to introduce MSc. Zoology in Jawahar Lal Nehru Rajakiya Mahavidyalaya, Port Blair.
Mr. Sharma informed the Lt. Governor that the students of B.Sc. Zoology Ist, 2nd and 3rd year of Jawahar Lal Nehru Rajakiya Mahavidyalaya have earnestly requested him to approach to the Lt. Governor for introducting M.Sc Zoology which is not available in the College. As per reports, there was a proposal to start M.Sc Zoology along with PG Chemistry and Plant Science in the college, while PG Chemistry and Plant Science have been introduced, but this particular subject has not yet been introduced.
Batting for the local students, Mr. Sharma has stated that after getting post graduation degree in Zoology, the local students may have better job opportunites in Zoological Survey of India, Central Agriculture Research Institute, and Forest Department in A & N Islands itself. Further to it, Mr. Sharma has also added that Zoology is a wide field offering many career opportunities for research, as there is a great deal to learn.
It offers a way to make a difference to the planet’s ecology through conservation work. Most zoologists are also employed by Schools and colleges and universities, where they undertake research work and teach students. Hence the introduction of Zoology subject at post graduation level in both the colleges of Andaman will allow the pass out M.Sc. Zoology local students to have job opportunities in schools and colleges within these islands as well as outside the Islands.
Hence Mr. Sharma requested the Lt. Governor to consider PG course in Zoology in the colleges of Port Blair and Mayabunder from the academic year 2013-14 which is also a long pending demands of the local college students.
