Port Blair, Apr 17: On 16 April 2013 issue, Andaman Sheekha had published a report highlighting that how mismanagement in the Railways Reservation Counter of Port Blair, is causing great inconvenience to public.
Thorough investigation into this matter by Andaman Sheekha has revealed that the reason behind this mismanagement is lack of care from the side of Administration.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha highly placed sources said that the staffs posted in the Railways Reservation Counter are staffs of Andaman and Nicobar Administration and not of Railways. Hence for the same amount of work, these staffs get very less salary than their counterparts in Railways.
Moreover, when other staffs of A & N Administration gets two days as holiday in a week these staffs have to work for six days in a week. For this neither they get extra incentives not OT (Over time).
“Earlier, they used to give us OT (Over Time) but the procedure is so lengthy and harassing that we feel as if we are begging for money and hence we stopped claiming OT from Administration,” sources told Andaman Sheekha.
The worst part is that almost everyday the staffs posted in the counter are abused by public for some or the other reasons. “For these all problems staffs of A & N Administration do not want to come to this counter to serve. There is no extra incentive no security. Moreover the Administration also does not show any interest to appoint some more extra staffs for this counter, considering the great importance of this service,” sources added.
After Andaman Sheekha’s 16th April 2013 report a file seeking clarification has reached the Railways Reservation Counter but as the staffs of the unit are under Administration, facts will never be mentioned in official files and hence it can be expected that the real problems will remain unnoticed by top official and public will continue to suffer in the Railways Reservation Counter.
