
Diu, May 20: The Beach Games, held under the ever-expanding Khelo India umbrella for the first time, were formally declared open by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, in a colourful ceremony on the Ghoghla Beach, the venue of the Games in Diu on Monday.The Khelo India Beach Games have brought together more than 1,350 athletes from over 30 States and Union Territories.
Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM, (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency attended the opening ceremony of Khelo India Beach Games 2025 which was also graced by Shri Kuniyil Kailashnathan, Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Puducherry and Shri Praful K Patel, Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep at Ghoghla, a Blue Flag Certified Beach at Diu.
The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, in his address, encouraged the participants of the event and also the contingent of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who are participating in the Beach Games 2025. He applauded the efforts of Daman and Diu Administration in raising the Infrastructure & Tourism facilities of Daman and Diu in the past few decades.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor also referred to the 109th Mann Ki Baat of Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, in which, the Hon’ble Prime Minister mentioned that the highlight of the event is the participation of athletes from non-coastal States, proving that determination and adaptability can overcome geographical barriers. The tournament is expected to showcase India’s diverse sporting talent and further boost beach sports in the country, the Lt. Governor remarked.
