Port Blair, Mar 25: Under the aegis of A&N Social Welfare Board, the Mahila Seva Sangh, Haddo, Port Blair organized Awareness Generation Programme in the Panchayat Hall, Garacharma at 10.00 A.M. More than, 150 women from the Gram Panchayat of Garacharma, Dollygunj area participated in the programme. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Bhagat Singh, Chairmen, A&N State Co-operative Bank Ltd., Mrs. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board presided over the programme. The camp will continue till 1st of April 2013 and during the period Resource person from various Govt. departments will interact with the participants.
The Chairperson in her address stressed for women awareness and made an appeal to the women to come forward in undertaking the programmes available for their development and get benefited. She appreciated the services rendered by the Mahila Seva Sangh and the local Panchayat. The chief guest while addressing the participants informed that the A&N State Cooperative Bank Ltd., opened a bank branch specially for women at Garacharma for the first time in these Islands.
The Chief Guest advised the participants to take care of the health of their children and asked them to give good balanced food to their children. He further encouraged the participants to form Self Help Group and start their own venture and get benefited. He also advised the women participants to avail loan from the bank to start their small business. He also requested the participants to open Bank accounts and start saving.
Mrs. Elizabeth Mary, In-charge Women Development Cell, A&N State Cooperative Bank and Mrs. S. Rani Pande, Secretary, A&N SWB were also present on the occasion. The Chief Guest in his speech further suggested that such camps should be organized in near future also to create awareness among the rural women.
