Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 18: The Directorate of Social Welfare, under the banner Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) of the scheme National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), organized an awareness program on the “Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse” at P.M. Shri Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bambooflat on 16th December 2024. Conducted in collaboration with IRCAs South Andaman, the Health Department, and A&N Police, the event sensitized over 165 students and teachers on the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Sessions by Mr. Rohit Paroi, Project Coordinator (IRCA), Mr. Rathindra Mallick, Psychologist Counselor (NTCP), and Mr. Sanjay Yadav, ASI (Anti-Narcotics), highlighted the importance of creating a drug-free environment, early intervention, and legal measures to combat addiction. Practical strategies, awareness of the COTPA Act, and the availability of the 112 helpline were emphasized. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice Principal Mr. Gopal Chandra Das, reaffirming the commitment to fostering a substance-free environment.
On 17th December 2024, an awareness initiative targeted the drivers and laborers of the Mini Cargo Auto Association, Mohanpura, Sri Vijaya Puram, focusing on the importance of a substance-free community. The program began with a session by the Project Coordinator under NAPDDR, highlighting the role of family well-being and mental health in combating substance abuse. He stressed the impact of addiction on families and encouraged a compassionate approach to supporting those affected. Dr. M.K. Mahato from IRCA South Andaman addressed the psychological and physical challenges of addiction, promoting the 112 helpline as a vital resource for counseling, support, and reporting concerns. He further urged participants to seek help or report suspected cases, sharing his contact information for direct assistance. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Mini Cargo Auto Association, expressing gratitude to the guest speakers. Over 30 members were sensitized during the session, reaffirming the Directorate of Social Welfare’s dedication to fostering a healthy and drug-free environment.
