Port Blair, Sept. 5:Industrial and commercial sectors remain at the forefront as we strive towards the goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. Over the past few years, the Government of India has introduced and implemented several key reforms that have substantially improved the Ease of Doing Business across the nation.
The Directorate of Industries and District Industries Centre, Andaman & Nicobar Administration under the supervision and guidance of the Chief Secretary, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS has been streamlining regulatory structures and creating an investor-friendly business climate under Ease of Doing Business (EoDB), in order to enhance business environment and attract greater investments especially in the MSME sector. Several initiatives in this regard undertaken by the Directorate of Industries and District Industries Centre includes Reduction of Compliance Burden (RCB) where the modes of delivery of 50 business/industry centric services and 32 citizen centric services were rationalized by simplifying, digitizing and reducing the documentary requirements of the services. The UT Administration has also reviewed all the Act, Rules & Regulation towards decriminalization of minor offences wherever possible. Integration of 30 online services and 68 Know Your Approvals pertaining to Andaman & Nicobar Islands were soft launched in the National Single Window System (NSWS) portal on 13th October, 2022.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry organized the ‘Udyog Samagam’ -a Conference of Industries & Commerce Ministers today in Delhi. The event was attended by Dr. Satyendra Singh Dursawat, Secretary (Industries) along with officials of Industries Department. The key stakeholders from across the States and Union Territories participated to engage in meaningful discussions, share best practices, and collaboratively address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in our industrial and economic landscape.
During the event, Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry felicitated the UT of Andaman & Nicobar Islands as ‘Top Achiever in Two Citizen Centric Reform Areas in Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP)’ based on BRAP 2022 ranking which was received by Secretary (Industries). The BRAP 2022 consisted of 352 reforms covering the business and citizen centric areas such as access to information, single window system, labour, environment, licenses and other reforms spanning across the life cycle of a typical business.
Furthermore, the UT of A& N islands has been participating in the annual exercise of Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) conducted by the Department for Promotion of Industries and Internal Trade (DPIIT), New Delhi since 2015-16 and so far, 785 evidences were processed pertaining to the business and citizen centric reforms for enhancing and attracting greater investment in the UT of A&N Islands. The UT’s ranking improved from 31 to 22 in BRAP (2019-20) and was placed as ‘Emerging Business Ecosystem’ in BRAP (2020-2021.
