Port Blair, Jul 21: Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2024 is being observed by all the Health facilities of the Union Territory of A&N Islands from 1st July which will continue till 31st August, 2024. To mark the event, a State level programme was organized by Directorate of Health Services in association with UT Health Mission today at the Community Hall, New Pahargaon, with the ultimate aim to ensure ‘Zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhoea among the under 05 children’. Dr. Suja Antony, Director, Health Services, A&N Administration, was the chief guest on the occasion while Mrs. Pandi Selvi, Ward Councillor, New Pahargaon, Ward number 20, South Andaman was the guest of honour.
In her address, Dr. Suja Antony, expressed her gratitude and encouraged the field functionaries to continue their work towards prevention and early treatment of Diarrhoea in under 5 children. Mrs. Pandi Selvi emphasised on the responsibility of the community in prevention of diarrhoeal diseases.
Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (Family Welfare) briefed the gathering on the sign and symptoms of diarrhoea, its early recognition and management by ORS and Zinc tablet.
The Medical Officers, Health Educators, LHVs, Community Health Officers, ANMs, AWWs, ASHAs and general public of Pahargaon village were present on the occasion. About 200 participants attended the programme and were benefitted.
During the programme, demonstration on hand washing practices (6 steps) and preparation of ORS was done by Community Health Officers and ANMs. Free ORS and Zinc tablets were distributed to the beneficiary children who attended the program by the dignitaries.
Earlier, Dr. Shweta, Medical Officer, RBSK welcomed the gathering while Dr. M.Joy CMO, PHC Garacharma proposed the vote of thanks.
